The type of beauty treatments you find yourself interested in will likely change as you get older. If you’re currently noticing a loss of facial volume, increased skin laxity and wrinkles, for example, Sculptra therapy could well prove particularly effective for you.
What is Sculptra?
Dermal fillers have been around for an impressively long time, with the first earliest recorded treatments dating all the way back to the 1890s, where paraffin was used as a filling agent. This pioneering approach paved the way for modern cosmetic treatments, such as Sculptra.
This is a type of dermal filler that stimulates natural collagen production, made using poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), rather than the hyaluronic acid fillers that you may already be familiar with.
PLLA is a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic material that, when injected into the skin, triggers an adaptive response, driving the skin to rebuild its own structure.
What areas can be treated with Sculptra?
Primarily used to stimulate natural collagen production and restore lost facial volume, typical treatment areas include:
- The cheeks
- The temples
- The jawline
- The chin
- The marionette lines (lines that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin)
- The nasolabial folds (smile lines)
Are there any side-effects after a Sculptra treatment?
As with any beauty treatments, there is a risk of side-effects with Sculptra, including:
- Swelling
- Redness
- Tenderness
- Bruising
Remember that these side-effects are temporary and should resolve themselves within a few days.
How long does it take to see results after a Sculptra treatment?
Sculptra results differ slightly to those you’ll see with traditional dermal fillers. They work gradually to stimulate collagen production, so you’ll start to see subtle improvements within four to six weeks, with the most significant results appearing within three and six months.
Final results can last up to two years or even longer, however.
Is Sculptra better than filler?
Because these two treatments have different goals, neither one is better than the other. For gradual and long-lasting restoration, consider Sculptra as an option. For immediate results and precise enhancements, go for filler instead.
Is Sculptra the same as Profilho?
No, Sculptra and Profhilo are different treatments.
The latter is an injectable hyaluronic acid that offers intense hydration and skin quality improvements, while the former is a biostimulator that rebuilds lost facial volume through the triggering of natural collagen production.
What happens during a Sculptra treatment session?
Target areas will be cleansed by your practitioner before numbing cream is applied if appropriate to ensure comfort throughout.
The PLLW powder is then reconstituted using water and injected in target sites, deep into the dermis, using a fine needle. Once administered, you’ll notice that your face looks fuller, which is due to the sterile water used as a carrying agent. This is a temporary effect.
Once the treatment is complete, your practitioner will carry out firm facial massage to ensure even distribution beneath the skin. You will also be advised on how to massage the area as part of your post-treatment care.
